Which accessories should you buy for your new MacBook Pro?

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Hey everyone, it's Adam The Tech Enthusiast, helping you to make informed decisions about your tech purchases! Today I'm going to share with you the accessories that I've been using with my 14” MacBook Pro for the last few months, so without any more rambling, let's get into it!

The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID

Now yes, this is a very expensive option, retailing at £149 but it is the only way to get Touch ID on your keyboard, and I find that really convenient. I can't really condemn this keyboard, I write all of my reviews on it and I find it really nice to type on, it's a great typing experience and I will quote my friend on what he said “I reckon this is the nicest non-mechanical keyboard’ so take that as you will. I personally use the one without the numeric keypad but you can also get that one for £199 which I would only recommend if you absolutely need it. I personally prefer to go with the smaller option because it fits on my small desk but that will vary depending on your needs and your desk space.

The Satechi M1 Mouse (because the Magic Mouse drives me crazy)

This is my main mouse that I use as of recently, and I love the light and slim design. It does not have gesture control like the Magic Mouse but I can just use the function keys on my magic keyboard at my desk and for travelling I can just reach for my MacBook trackpad anyway which is great. I really love that the space gery matches the MacBook in space grey too, its a really nice touch. Another thing that this mouse just does better is that it has USB-C on the front of the mouse which means you can actually use the mouse while you're charging up which is something you just can't do over on the Magic Mouse. And you get all of this for just £30, now that's a bargain.

The Magic Mouse (no I’m not joking)

Now this is probably the most controversial thing on this list, the Apple Magic Mouse. It definitely has a questionable design that has remained unchanged since 2015, and people have made endless memes and jokes about this crazy mouse, so why on earth do I and many other people still use it? The only answer I could give you is MacOS, it works seriously well with MacOS because of its multi-touch design which allows you to easily do all of the gestures you need to do to completely navigate your computer, which is something that most other mice just can't do but if you have a magic keyboard like I do, then you don’t need that anyway, and I just recently decided to ditch the Magic Mouse in my main set up while I was writing this review, the main reason being comfort, at least for me I generally prefer the magic trackpad that’s built in to my laptop.

AirPods Max

Now I guess these aren't really a Mac accessory as such, but I had to include them on this last because when I am using my Mac, I'm probably using these as well. They are definitely the best headphones I've ever used, and they have an awesome, stylish design which I really dig. I love that Apple really went for something different with the design with these headphones. But of course, the most important part of them is the functionality which is insanely good.

Samsung 4K monitor

Now this is probably the most boring part of my setup. It's nothing special but it does get the job done. I would consider upgrading for a 120Hz display or slimmer bezels but for now, I'm still enjoying the beautiful 4K display and it works great for both productivity and gaming. Although I do question the software sometimes, like for example I will plug my laptop in to HDMI 2 but the monitor will only look for a connection to HDMI 1 and then completely switch off without even trying HDMI 2 which can be really fustrating.

TomToc travel case

That's what you call a laptop case. This has to be my favourite laptop case of all time. For a full disclaimer the case i'm currently using was sent to me by TomToc themselves but I did use their laptop cases before they sent me this one. Inside of the case there is a lot of padding to protect your laptop and hardened corners to protect it from falls. I also got an extra little pouch case with mine which I love to put my portable charger and some cables inside. Overall this is the perfect case to protect your investment, and you cant go wrong with it.

Bestand laptop stand

This is the best stand I could find on Amazon when i bought my MacBook Pro, and i'm really enjoying it. Its very sturdy and I haven't once noticed it wobble or show any signs of falling over, which is the main thing you don't want it to do as a stand. I also love how it matches with my macbook and Satechi mouse, it's like the full trio!

The iPad mini

Although this is not just an accessory, it’s another device I think that it is a great iPad to pair with your new MacBook, it’s great to use for Sidecar and for universal control, so that you can display something else on the iPad while working on your MacBook. It’s also really light and thin so it’s easy to take with you on the go with you so that you can have a second screen on the go. My full review of the iPad mini will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

Thank you for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed it and if you want to check any of these accessories out for yourself, just head over to amazon!
