The Base One Max, Nomad's best charger yet...

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well. Today I'm here to talk about the new Nomad Base One Max, which was kindly sent to me from the good people over at Nomad. So is it worth its hefty price tag, let's find out!

So my first impressions of this charger was that it is a really good quality charger, made out of very premium materials. For the past few months I've been using the regular Base One charger and this new one is very similar to that in terms of build quality, but now there is a matte finish area around the Apple Watch puck, which is a nice touch. This time I got the silver model which is a nice change to my black Base One, it looks super clean and on my desk next to my stand from Omotion, that I use for my iPad mini. It will fit into any setup easily or on a bedside table.

If your wondering why this charger is expensive other than the premium build quality, then I'll explain. Basically, Nomad have paid Apple to use certified charging with both the MagSafe puck and Apple Watch puck which basically means they have access to higher charging speeds and it won't harm your iPhone or Apple Watch which I personally think that that justifies the higher price because I get full speed MagSafe charging and I don't have any issues with the charger either. In the past, I've had all sorts of problems with different chargers, but not with my Nomad ones.

I'd say the main downside of this charger is that it doesn't ship with a power brick, you need to supply your own 30W USB C power adapter in order to use the charger but they can be found for a cheap price on Amazon, but don't buy unbranded ones with bad ratings as they may not be safe for your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Overall, I really love this charger. It has a good amount of weight to it so that when you pick your iPhone up, and the whole charger doesn't take off with it, which is a problem with a lot of MagSafe chargers so I'm glad it's not an issue with this one. Also, it's not too big so you'll easily be able to fit it on your desk or bedside table. Out of all the MagSafe chargers I've personally tested, this is the one that is staying on my desk, it's just the best in every category and causes zero issues and charges my phone at the full 15W of MagSafe charging. Another thing to mention is that although it doesn't come with a power brick it does come with a super fancy braided cable to match your charger, so if you go silver, you get a white coloured cable and if you go black, you get a balck coloured clabe which is a really nice touch from Nomad and it just looks very clean.

So should you actually buy this charger? If you want the most premium charger and a seamless experience, then go for it, you wont be disappointed, and if you dont have an Apple Watch, then the regular Base One is an awesome pick up too, with the same premium design, that charges your iPhone at 15W of MagSafe charging.
