iPhone case showdown, which case should YOU actually buy for your new iPhone

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Apple silicone case

Now this is the standard go to case from Apple, but is it actually any good? I’ve been using these cases for 3 years, with a few different phones and I can say these cases are very high quality. Bare in mind I don't baby my phone, but I also don’t drop it very often, especially with this case on because it has a great grip it has, which is the reason I keep on buying these cases everytime I buy a new iPhone. I recommend looking second hand for these cases too, CEX have great prices on these cases, especially if you're rocking an older iPhone. Something to bare in mind though is that if your on an iPhone that is older than an iPhone 12 then the case will have an exposed chin on the bottom which is not great for protection reasons, but they did fix this with the iPhone 12 series and beyond.

Apple leather case

Now this is a case that I know a lot of people like because of how premium it looks and feels, but I haven't actually used one since I had my iPhone 11 Pro around 2 years ago, until recently when I bit the bullet and bought one for my beloved iPhone 13 mini in the golden brown colour. First of all, I have to say, this is one gorgeous case, it looks premium, and it feels very premium too with its metallic buttons and high quality leather material, I also love the small indented Apple logo on the back of the case, I think it looks great! The main downside of this particular phone case would be its durability, if you’re the type of person who drops their phone regularly then this is not the phone case for you, it will get torn up and start to look very old very quickly, and that's not Apple’s fault, it's just the way leather works. I don't seem to drop my iPhone very often so mine still looks like new but it's something to bare in mind before dropping £60 on this case.

Moft case

This is the most recent case I’ve e been using, which was sent to me from Moft, and I must say, since I got it, I haven't taken it off my phone other than for photo shoots. I really enjoy the design of this case with the clear sides and the clear circle around the Apple logo, it feels very premium and looks great, especially when paired with a nice snap on wallet from them! I would definitely recommend picking up this phone case, it's very durable which is obvious when you try and remove the case, and it's much cheaper than Apple’s silicone case costing only £30 which is a great deal! If you have a silver iPhone then the white version of this case is so nice!

Gear 4 case

The first gear 4 case I picked up was for my iPhone 13 Pro Max in September when it came out. I really wanted a clear case but I don't like Apple’s clear case because it still exposes the chin of you phone which could lead to potential scratches especially on the Pro iPhones as they have Stainless Steel edges which are easily scratched up by things like keys which you may keep in your pocket with your iPhone. I have had this phone case for a long time now and its held up pretty well for a clear case, it has no yellowing but it does have half a dozen scratches on the back of the case which is to be expected. You can also colour match the MagSafe ring to the colour of your iPhone which is super dope and a good deal for £30.

Nomad case

Nomad makes some really high quality accessories including my favourite, the Base One Max, but they also make phone cases. I’ve talked about this phone case in a previous review but how is it holding up now? It’s still a great case, it protects my phone and that Ash Green colour never gets old! Mine has a few scratches on the back of the case but not as many as my clear cases, and the matte black sides still look like new. Overall I have to say I’m impressed with this case and I think all we need is a few new colours from Nomad to spice it up! For me personally I just love the unique design of the case.

Otterbox case

Now, you’ve probably heard of Otterbox cases, they’re known for being quite big and bulky with added protection to your phone. Although you can still get huge cases from Otterbox, not all of their cases are as big anymore, but they still offer that exceptional protection for your phone. I have used the Stardust Magsafe case for the iPhone 13 Pro Max and i really liked it, it didn't feel too bulky but I was still confident in it protecting my phone when I do occasionally drop it.

Survivor case

This is a case that I’ve started using again recently on my iPhone 13 mini, and I cant help but love it. It doesn't have an actual MagSafe ring inside of it but it does work with most MagSafe accessories including the Nomad Base One Max which is really important to me, I wouldn't recommend using this case with the Apple Leather Wallet though as it does seem to fall off very easily. Although the connection of MagSafe is weaker with this case, it doesn't have the huge white ring on the back of your phone which is defiantly a positive, since you don't have to look at a huge white ring on the back of your phone which some people don't like. Overall the protection of this case is pretty decent too and I’m not afraid to drop my phone while I’ve got this case on which is always a bonus.

Ringke case

I have the Ringke fusion case with magsafe and a matte frosted back which I bought on Amazon when I got my iPhone 13 mini. I love the overall feel of this case because it feels so nice in your hand because of the frosted back which also means you have less fingerprints and scratches in the long run. Although the case looks and feels great, unlike a lot of other cases on this list, I don't think this is the most protective case, the materials used feel kinda cheap and I would not be very comfortable dropping my phone with this case on as it also pops on and off fairly easily. If your looking for a case to prevent your phone form getting scratched up and you don't really drop your phone, then this case may be what your looking for but, if you need something that is going to protect your phone from all of those accidental drops then this is not the case for you.

Elago

This is probably one of my favourite cases for my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Elago were kind enough to send me one of their silicone MagSafe cases in a mint colour (which I absolutely love) and I've been using it a lot. I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max in silver and it looks so good with the mint colour case, I can't get enough of it! It feels super premium in the hand and it looks great! It also has pretty good protection for a silicone case! When I’ve been out with friends and someone borrows my phone they always ask me about my case because of how nice it feels to hold.

MagBak

This has to be one of the most interesting cases I’ve had the chance to check out recently! The awesome team over at MagBak sent over some awesome accessories including two phone cases, one for my 13 mini and one for my 13 Pro Max, which I have used both of them for a while now, and here are my thoughts. They have a very square design which perfectly matches the actual design of the new iPhones and looks great on them, they also have an amazing mini ecosystem of magnetic accessories that work exceptionally well with these cases, like their wallet which can dual as a stand, or their 3 in 1 charger which can not only charge your iPhone but also you Apple Watch and AirPods. Overall the MagSafe cases are very high quality and a great choice, especially if you want to buy the other accessories that work really well with the case.

Mous Limitless 4.0

So a few weeks back, I was browsing on amazon and I found that they were having a sale on the Mous cases so I decided to pick one up. I got the bamboo one for my iPhone 13 mini, and I do not regret it. When you see the crazy mous ads on YouTube with someone throwing their iPhone off a bridge or something with a mous case on the iPhone, they're not playing around. These cases are super protective and your phone will come to no harm while in one of these cases.

So there you have it, a mini review of every case I’ve e used in the past year, and I don’t think I can pick a definitive winner to be honest because all of them have their own strengths and weaknesses so it all depends what kind of case your looking for, there should definitely be something for you on this list! Links and pics for most of these cases can be found on my Instagram page in the highlights section or you can google them.

Thank you for reading, especially if you got this far!
