iPad Pro 11", 2 years later

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Hi everyone and welcome back to another tech review and today we will be talking about the iPad Pro from 2020, particularly the 11' model.

In April 2020, Apple announced their newest model of the iPad Pro, with the new A12Z chip, a new camera system and more ram. It wasn't a huge upgrade over its predecessor, the 2018 iPad Pro which brought a whole new design to the iPad Pro and Face ID. Just last year Apple announced their M1 iPad pro with even fewer changes, but that was a whole year ago now so we may see a new iPad pro at the end of the year which I am very interested to see how it will improve compared to the already amazing M1 model. But we are here to talk about the 2020 iPad Pro, so how has it held up after 2 years of use?

On a side note, this is one of my favourite devices of all time, and it's been a really useful tool for content creation, especially my wallpaper packs which I just launched. It’s kinda like my trusty friend, it never leaves my side, and it never lets me down, I can always rely on it.

When I first got it, I was very impressed with the display, it feels so smooth and Face ID is so convenient on an iPad compared to Touch ID which my previous iPad 6th generation had. It was also nice to have such a thin and portable device, to this day when I pick up my iPad, I'm like, dam that's a beautiful design!

Why I haven't upgraded

So to be honest, this is the longest I've kept an Apple product for (so far) and there are few reasons for that. First of all, the M1 iPad Pro (especially the 11’’) was the smallest iPad Pro upgrade in a long time. The second reason is that it's still running like a beast, after 2 years I've had no major problems with it, and I still really enjoy using it to this day. The screen is super smooth because of the high refresh rate and the chip has still got more power than I need for my iPad. Personally I really enjoy the size of the 11” too, and with my magic keyboard it feels like a mini MacBook.

How I use it on a daily basis

Only a few months ago, I was still a student, and the iPad was my go to device for writing up all of my notes in class, scanning in documents and sending emails. The 11" form factor was perfect for travelling to college everyday too. Now I've finished studying, I use my iPad with the magic keyboard to write most of my blogs and reviews while I'm on the go, as I find the MacBook Pro to be clunky and too big to travel around with. The iPad fits into my backpack easily and I can quickly whip it out for half an hour or so of writing when I have a break.

When will I upgrade?

So how much longer will I keep this beast? I'm may upgrade when Apple releases their next line up of iPad Pros, and that's for only one reason: mini LED. I really love the mini LED display on my 14” MacBook Pro and I would love to have it on my iPad Pro, so yes, that does mean if Apple decided to limit it to the 12.9” model again then I will be keeping my 2020 model as it's the main reason I want to upgrade. I would really love Apple to throw a MagSafe 3 port on the next iPad Pro and maybe even a better battery life but we will see. The battery life on my iPad Pro has definitely gotten worse over the years but it still easily gets me through a day or two, and with the help of a friend we found out that it still has 97% of its' original capacity.

Should you buy one in 2022?

I would say yes, it's probably one of the best iPads to buy right now in terms of value, you can find it on Apple’s refurbished store for £549, which is an absolute bargain for its' price! This iPad packs so much in for the price, including a nice 120hz display, Face ID, 128GB of base storage and a beautiful 11” liquid Retina display with promotion. And for most people you could easily use this as your main computing device, it has plenty of power and it will last you so many years to come, pair it with a Magic keyboard and you’ve got your self the full experience!

Thank you for reading :)
