Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well! Today we are here to see if the AirPods Pro 2 were worth all of the hype, people were anticipating their launch for a very long time! Some crazy rumours were floating around hinting at major redesign, but as we now know, that did not happen, so let's get into it, are they worth the hype?
Design…
So this may have disappointed a few people but I will say one thing, rumours are rumours, it's not Apple’s fault if you're disappointed because you let your expectations rocket because of the rumours. The design of the buds themselves has stayed relatively the same (yes no stemless design) but they have changed the size of the sensors on the front to give them a slightly different look to the last gen pros. Honestly, there wasn't really a need for a redesign. The current design does work really well with all of the media functions and the new volume slider, although it would be nice to see Apple's take on a stemless set of AirPods, but hey, you can't have everything. Something else to note is that Apple has put speakers on the bottom of the case so you can basically ring them like an AirTag which is super dope! Oh and that lanyard loop that everyone was asking for…
Comfort…
So this was the main bummer of the last gen pros for me. I just could not get those things to stay in my ears to save my life! Everything I tried, just didn't work. I adjusted them constantly, tried all 3 different sizes of earbuds and even tried foam tips (which were awful) and absolutely nothing worked. BUT. THEN. MAGIC. Apple released the AirPods Pro 2 with a brand new eartip size, they call it XS which was the answer to all my dreams and wishes! Okay okay, I may be over-exaggerating just a little but this is absolutely game changing for me! I can actually use AirPods Pro now! If you know me, or follow me anywhere you probably know that for the last year I've been using the AirPods 3rd gen instead, solely because they actually stay in my ears without slipping out, so I was missing out on all of the goodness that the Pros had to offer.
Sound…
Okay so the sound on these things has no business being as good as it is. This is the closest I can get to over ears from a pair of earbuds, they just sound so good! I'm not an audiophile so my perspective is just enjoying music and podcasts that I listen to, and these have not disappointed me with either. Everything feels very well balanced, and they have a very similar sound profile to that of the AirPods 3rd generation, which I was personally very fond of.
Anc and transparency mode…
So I’d say with transparency mode, it's the best on any earbuds I've ever used, as it was on the first gen Pros. I honestly can't notice a difference, I can't really see how it could be better either so no complaints! When the original AirPods Pro launched back in 2019, they had the best ANC in the game, but over the years other companies have caught up and even beaten them at points! Now here we are in the same situation, they seem to have risen to the top of the market yet again, but I'm sure we'll probably wait another 3 years before Apple releases another pair of Pros so other companies will catch up in the meantime! So in short, it's the best I've heard on earbuds and very very close to that of the AirPods max which have the beat anc I've ever heard, more on that in the next section!
Vs the maxes…
So y'all know the maxes are my babies. Since the day I got them (roughly two years ago now) I've fallen in love with them. Yes the case sucks. But they are so comfortable. They block everything out. They sound insane. What's not to love? They also look amazing, I love the design and the colours! So how do the new Pros stack up against the top dog? So the pros sound good but they're not as full sounding as the maxes. The pros noise cancellation is awesome but the maxes are super awesome. Also the Pros don't keep your ears warm! So in all seriousness, for the size and price of the pros they are much better value than the maxes but in terms of being the best, the maxes keep the crown. To be clear, I'm very impressed with the pros, especially considering they are less than half the price and size of the maxes!
Worth the hype?
So I'm pretty sure since Apple released the original AirPods Pro back in 2019, all people have been talking about is a potential second generation, we even have had wild rumours hinting at a redesign. I personally wouldn't say they were worth any of the hype to be honest. They just aint that kind of product. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing and they are a worthy upgrade from the older pros but I don't think they are groundbreaking or as exciting as other products such as the Apple Watch Ultra. They just get the job done, no new colours no crazy new redesign. The most exciting thing about them is probably the volume slider, which really isn't that big of a deal once you've used it a few times either.
Should you buy them?
Absolutely. No doubt at all, these are a bloody good pair of earbuds! Sometimes boring updates are the best, and these are a very good example of that, can't stress how good the noise cancellation is now, they don't need anything flashy and new to blow your mind sometimes! They may not be anything special but if you're wanting the best earbuds you can get, these may be the ones to go for, especially if you're in Apple’s ecosystem- then they are a no brainer!
Thanks for reading everyone!! Have you tried the new Airpods Pro yet- if so let me know what you think of them! Catch you all later!
