AirPods 3 are Apple’s latest set of wireless earbuds, with a few new features, an all new design and a lower price than AirPods Pro, they may be the earbuds for you. They come in at £169, which is actually cheaper than what the AirPods 2 used to be with the wireless charging case. So let's find out if AirPods 3 are really worth it…
Design
The design is very familiar, they are like AirPods Pro but without the silicone tips. They have the force touch stem which is a huge improvement over the touch controls on the AirPods 2, as much more satisfying and much easier to use. The smaller stem design is more compact too. You’ll find that the case on these is actually smaller than the ones for the AirPods Pro, making it more compact and pocketable. For scale, I would say the case is very similar in size to AirPods 2, just kinda flipped round.
Fit
This is the hardest area, as we all have different ears and that is the real diceder as to whether these fit will depend on your ears. For me, the AirPods 3 are the most comfortable AirPods I’ve ever used, but like I said, it all depends on your ears. The only guidance I can give you is that if you like the in-ear fit of the AirPods Pro then dont get these but if you prefer the fit of the AirPods and AirPods 2 then these should be really comfortable for you.
Features
The main new feature that Apple were talking about when they announced the AirPods on stage was the fact that they now support spatial audio, just like the AirPods Pro and Max. I love this feature personally, I always listen to my music with spatial audio on, usually I have it on fixed but you can also use head tracking which is really fun to play with but I prefer fixed for everyday tasks like walking.
Battery
The battery life on the AirPods 3 is really good. It is actually better than the battery life on the AirPods Pro. The buds themselves have 6 hours of battery life, and with the case you can get up to 30 hours of listening time. In my testing, Apple’s claims are true, and I did notice that the battery percentage goes down much slower on these than it does on other gneeration AirPods. I'm really impressed with the battery life overall, and I don't think you will have any problems with it.
Sound quality
Boom. Boom. Boom. Wow, Apple really knocked it out of the park with this one. They sound so much better than AirPods 2, in all honesty I would say they are very similar to AirPods Pro, but they are a bit more bassy. I really like the sound profile of these, it feels very balanced, just like the AirPods Pro. I think this is mainly down to the new EQ sound which specialises the audio for your ear.
Verdict
These are a great pair of wireless earbuds, they have a good battery, they sound good and they have a great design. Unless you really like the in-ear design of the Pros and you want active noise cancellation and transparency mode, then I would say the AirPods 3 are a great choice! I personally love mine, they fit so good and they sound really good too. Thanks for reading, see you next time!
